"Cool for Boys" Book Reviews |
"The boy in striped pyjamas" by John ByrneThis was the very first book that I have borrowed from the 'Cool for boys' section. To tell the truth the first half of the book only talked about Bruno and his family - it didn't really appeal to me. Then a few chapters later I couldn't put the book down. I really couldn't! The ending left me heart-broken. The book was so touching I even recommended it to my dad! This truly a breath-taking book. David Nguyen Year 8

"American Born Chinese" by Gene Luen YangThis book is set in San Francisco and in Hevan. This book is about a monkey who thinks he's a deity, a boy named Jin Wang and his friend Wei-Chen Sun but the funniest person is Chin-Kee. He made me laugh till I cried. I've read this book 3 times and still laughed. My whole family enjoyed it. I recommend this book to people of all ages. It's a very funny book. Andrew Luu Year 8

The midnight library III "End Game" by Nick Shadow.I have to tell you that this book is an endless book of horror. It was exactly like Kate Colley said. I couldn't put it down after I started reading the intro. I mostly enjoyed End Game. I found the other sister quite boring but anybody there was full on scary. It's cool for anyone who likes horror like me. Andrew Luu Year 8

The midnight library "I can see you" by Nick ShadowThis is my fifth borrowed book and I say these books never get boring. The book is packed with 3 stories "I can see you", "True colours" and "Picture purfect" which all have a spine-chilling end. "I can see you" is about a boy and his family that moves into a farm but don't know that a man named George Axby (who died of an emotional break down). But that's enough - you've got to read it yourself! Andrew Luu Year 8

"American born Chinese" by Gene Luen YangThe book was so fantastic that I couldn't stop reading it. The book has really funny jokes to distract the monster from killing the monkey. I really enjoy reading adventure stories and so far this is the best I've read. David Le Year 8

"Bone-Out from Boneville" by Jeff SmithThis book was great. Well, who wouldn't like it? I mean even Matt Groening, the creator of the Simpsons, a rival of the Bone series, loved the book. I'm not much of a book reader but when I read the first page I couldn't let go of the book. Now I'm going to go to the shops and buy the whole series! Peter Ho Year 8 |
"The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" by John BoyneJohn Boyne's 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' is a fiction based on the reflection of the Holocaust. I can say that the author has used very carefully selected words to reflect a nine year old's manner and character. Not only does this tale inform facts of historical events, it also shows the power of friendship and what it can lead to between two people. The final pages deliver a full, unexpected smack-in-your-face! Tariq Chau Year 8 |
