First Days of Canley Vale High School

I finished teachers college in 1965 and commenced my first day of teaching on the first day Canley Vale High School opened its doors on Tuesday 1st February 1966.
There was no such thing as "pupil free days". On the first day the students and teachers and mums and dads all started to walk into the grounds a little after 8.30 am. The staff had their first meeting in room 1 (which is now print room + store room). The staff consisted of the principal Mr. Alf Gray who came from Picnic Point High and a newly promoted deputy principal Mr. Aubrey Mclean. Both men were very competent caring and well-respected teachers. We were a very small school then with 6 classes in year 7 and 3 in year 8. There was no year 9-12 yet. The teaching staff consisted of about 14 teachers. We had a mathematics faculty of just 2- me a 19 year old and the old man of the group was Brendan Johnston who was 23. The school library was room 10 (now the computer room 1 in the corner of A block). E Block didn't exist and the present library was once the school canteen and only basketball court.
